Spare some time,
we’ll spare your wallet

Volunteer for a race and earn Big Blue Adventure Bucks to spend on an entry of your own. Credit can be earned by family and friends too — recruit a few people and build the account faster. It is genuinely a fun and easy way to pay for your racing, and the best seat on the course into the bargain.

Where we need people

Pick your post

  • Course marshal and pointer

Hold a strategic junction on the bike or run course and make sure nobody takes the wrong turn. A flag, a cowbell, and the best seat on the course.

  • Registration

Help get every participant checked in — a bit of admin, handing out bibs, shirts and swag. The evening before, usually.

  • Aid and feed stations

Great for a group, fine for individuals. Water, electrolyte, gels, bars and salty snacks. Keep an eye on people, call staff if medical is needed, and cheer.

  • Timing

Collect timing chips, record race number and time for redundant data collection, and post updated results on the information board.

  • Finish

Hang medals around necks, hold the crowd back, walk finishers to the recovery food and keep it topped up. The loudest job of the day.

  • Awards ceremony

Set up and run the awards with our staff.

  • Food and beverage

Set up, prepare, distribute and clean up. Depending on the event that is a barbeque, or bagels and fruit.

  • Triathlon transition

The transition area is the busiest venue of a triathlon. Help athletes find their spot on the rack, watch the ins and outs, and make sure no bike leaves with the wrong person.

  • Water safety

Support our staff and lifeguards during the swim. You need to be comfortable on a kayak or SUP board, and you must attend the pre-event safety meeting that morning.

  • Venue set-up and break-down

Tents, transition area, course marking, finish arch, and on and on. The Big Blue crew job.
